White Night Melbourne is Australia’s most celebrated cultural event. Inspired by the international Nuit Blanche movement, White Night Melbourne is an all-night, free cultural event with visual art, illuminations, music, food, theatre, sport, fashion, film, design and performances on display. The event runs from 7pm to 7am, and is held within the centre of Melbourne, with activities in city streets, parklands, laneways, public spaces and cultural institutions.
White Night Melbourne is a unique event as it runs over a full 12 hour period, allowing you to choose an arrival time that suits you. In previous years, peak attendance periods have been experienced between 9pm when the projections are visible, through to approximately 11.30pm, with generally smaller crowds after midnight.
Previous attendees have created their own experience – arriving later to enjoy the programme at a less crowded time, or by booking dinner at a city restaurant before heading out to the event afterward.
White Night Melbourne 2015 will take place from 7pm Saturday 21st February to 7am Sunday 22nd February.
Andrew Walsh, Artistic Director of White Night Melbourne said ‘the third iteration of White Night Melbourne will be a celebration of Melbourne’s artistic links to the world. The combined talents of local and international artists will transform our city into a magical experience for all to behold as we continue to create a ‘night like no other’. White Night Melbourne has quickly become a must do experience, whole city celebration, on the Victorian Major Events calendar and White Night Melbourne 2015 will not disappoint.’
Inspired by Paris’ Nuit Blanche, White Night Melbourne has successfully aligned itself with the iconic international network of White Night events. A worldwide phenomenon with over 20 countries participating, Melbourne is Australia’s first and only city to host White Night. Its unique interpretation and distinct Melbourne flair, make it an event that is ever intriguing and not to be missed.
White Night Melbourne is a State Government of Victoria initiative, created by the Victorian Major Events Company. It is produced by White Night Melbourne Productions; a joint venture between Right Angle Events and Accolade Event Management.
In the lead up to the event, the website will have regular updates and tools to assist you in creating your own White Night experience including maps, programme details, road closures, travel and transport information.
