The event transforms the impossible into the possible through installation, lighting, exhibitions, street performances, film, music, dance and interactive events taking place in the streets and laneways, parklands, public spaces and cultural institutions of Melbourne.

At White Night Melbourne, you can expect the unexpected. It’s a night to plan not to have any plans and to get in touch with the intangible.

Creative Theme

David Atkins Enterprises (DAE) has been appointed by Visit Victoria to produce White Night Melbourne 2017 and is seeking Expressions of Interest from Artists who want to make a contribution. When developing and/or submitting your idea you are invited to consider the Creative Theme for 2017:

"Night, the beloved. Night, when words fade and things come alive. When the destructive analysis of day is gone, and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again."

This Creative Theme is underpinned by the four creative pillars: Inclusion, Accessibility, Engagement and Innovation - which when combined with the quote above, will be used to determine the suitability of all Expressions of Interest submissions.

Inclusion

Inclusive for audiences and artists alike, everyone should be able to experience and enjoy the event.

Accessibility

Accessible from both a practical and creative perspective, the audience needs to be able to travel through the experience with confidence and in comfort. The works and installations should also be accessible in terms of visual access and subject matter.

Engagement

The works and installations should engage the audience emotionally and experientially, capture their attention and solicit responses from them. It should also engage the community, artists and patrons.

Innovation

The works and installations need to break conventions, be innovative and original.

White Night should challenge perceptions, it should captivate and motivate, incite and inspire. It should be uplifting and exhausting. It should ignite the senses and lift the spirit.

Shortlisted Artists contacted 9th September 2016
Shortlisted Artist engagement period 9th September - 23th September 2016
White Night Melbourne Artists finalised 23rd September - 30th September 2016
Unsuccessful Artists notified 30th September 2016

Please note that Expressions of Interest for Buskers, Cafes, Bars, Restaurants, Food Trucks, Venues, Galleries and other 'Out of the Box' projects will open in late August 2016.
